Apple has kicked off its ’12 Days of Gifts’ promo for iDevice owners with content from Justin Timberlake. The two songs and two videos, all live recordings from the iTunes Festival that rocked the roof off London’s Roundhouse back in September, can be downloaded for free as an album, or individually.
Three of the tracks – Take Back the Night, True Blood, and TKO – were first heard on the second part of Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience studio album released in September, while the fourth, SexyBack, was released in 2006 on his FutureSex/LoveSounds album.
If you’re a die-hard Justin Timberlake fan, then this is pretty awesome news. If you’re not, Apple’s first freebie will be about as appealing as a swim in a sewer. In that case, there’s always tomorrow’s gift.
Apple has been running its annual 12-day festive giveaway since 2008, though this is the first time US-based users have been able to join in the fun.
For each of the next 12 days, the Cupertino company is offering iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners a free download – it could be a game, app, song, book, movie, or TV show – via its 12 Days of Gifts app, which you can grab from the iTunes store here if you don’t already have it.
You’ll need to be running iOS 7 to load the app, suggesting Apple is using the promo as a way to push the 22 percent of iDevice users still using iOS 6 into upgrading to the latest version of its mobile operating system.
Amazon, too, is offering up a range of free software this week for visitors to its Android-based Amazon Appstore, as well as a $5 credit to anyone who downloads an app or game from its app store between December 24 and 28. Head over to here for more information. And for free music from Google Play, click here, or here for a range of app-related deals and discounts.
