NFL Now joins Apple TV - Awful Announcing

As the National Football League looks to expand its reach beyond the traditional platforms, it has reached an agreement to have NFL Now carried on Apple TV. NFL Now is an over the top service that gives fans access to free content as well as videos through subscriptions. The NFL announced the addition of its content to Apple TV last week.

If you’re not aware of NFL Now, it’s an over-the-top service similar to Netflix and WWE Network which does not go through cable or satellite providers to send content to its subscribers.

NFL Now provides game highlights, original content from the NFL as well as all 32 clubs. A $1.99/month subscription, NFL Now Plus, allows fans to go one step further with in-game highlights and a non-stop stream of content from their favorite teams and access to the NFL Films library of documentaries and films.

Will the inclusion of NFL Now expand its fanbase? It doesn’t provide live games nor will it allow fans to watch popular features like NFL RedZone. Some may ask what does this give that the live games or RedZone already provide.

The on-demand access to the NFL Films library might be an incentive, but unless NFL Now gets rights to live games, it will be hard to justify a $1.99/month subscription, but the service is in its infancy. We’ll see how far-reaching it can go in the coming years.
