In September of 2013, Apple released its latest addition to the iPhone family, namely the new Apple iPhone 5s.
Available in three subtle new colors, including gold, this iPhone is a speedy little smart phone with updated features, including the new TouchID fingerprint scanner and an upgraded camera chock full of new features. It is a well known fact that iPhones are not cheap, so it pays to shop around for the best deals and plans. Here is a brief overview of what is available today when it comes to the iPhone 5s.
Sprint
Sprint currently offers the iPhone 5s starting at a very affordable $99 for the 16 GB model with a two-year contract. The 32 GB configuration is $199, and the 64 GB is $299. Full price for these phones through Sprint runs from $649 to $849, but the 2-year plan affords you a $450 instant savings as well as $100 off for signing up online.
AT&T
The AT&T promotion for iPhone 5s is not quite as good as Sprint’s. The 16 GB model runs $199 with a two-year contract, and the 32 GB and 64 GB models are $299 and $399, respectively. If you use the AT&T Next program, the cost of your phone will be spread out over 20 months at a rate of $32.50 per month for the 16 GB. At the end of your term, you may trade your phone in for a new phone.
T Mobile
T Mobile offers perhaps the most flexible plan of the four major providers. You pay either $0, $99, or $199 up front, and the remaining balance is paid out over the next 24 months. This is a great idea for those not wanting to pony up a lot of money at the beginning of a new contract.
Verizon
On Verizon, the iPhone 5s starts at $199 with a 2-year contract. Other options include paying full price ($649.99 and up) with a month-to-month plan or $27.15 a month using the Verizon Edge service. The advantage of Edge is the ability to upgrade to a new phone every year and is similar to a car lease program.
Other Retailers
If you are not looking to buy direct from one of the big four, consider going to Best Buy and starting your contract there. They currently have a promotion on the iPhone 5s for $124.99 with a contract for AT&T, T Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint. Second best is Target, where the prices start at $179.99.
When you have your heart set on a certain phone, it pays to shop around. Do your homework, and consider switching service providers in order to get the best deal available. The companies dealing in smart phones are constantly changing their rates, promotions, and deals with the purpose of attracting customers away from their competitors, so the above information can and will change. Additional savings may be available for employees of certain businesses, military members, or those in service industries of firefighting, police, and education. Remember that it never hurts to ask – the worst they can say is no.
