Apple Inc. has found faster growth in Japan than elsewhere in the world in the past two years, as it has worked to expand abroad.
The Wall Street Journal reports Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone has helped the company compete in a market where domestic companies normally keep foreign rivals at bay.
Sales of the iPhone were boosted further in September when Japan's largest carrier, DoCoMo Inc., began offering it.
Apple is also finding success with its iPad in the country, where the device claimed more than 50 percent of the tablet market for the fiscal year ending in March, according to research.
